Micah Wood

A true craftsman, Micah Wood (b. 1982) has fine-tuned the art of making surfboards. Born and raised in San Diego, Micah was immersed in the surf culture from an early age. Surfing with his father and brother throughout his formative years, a passion quickly developed that would become not only a pastime, but a career.

At the young age of 13, Micah became a teamrider for Chris Christenson’s “Christenson Surfboards”. He watched Chris shape his boards for several years when he was then offered the opportunity to join the reputable Gordan & Smith surf team (1998). Not only a team rider, Micah learned from the crew at Waterlines Unlimited how to build a traditionally crafted, quality surfboard from start to finish. Micah studied the art of shaping from the highly regarded G&S shapers: Ernie Higgins, Chris Darby, and Masi Saili. He started at the bottom packaging surfboards and assembling skateboards, eventually working his way up to the shaping room to become a G&S Custom Surfboard shaper.

Branching out in 2007, Micah started his own company “Wood Custom Surfboards”. Staying true to the craft, Micah hand shapes each and every board. Overseeing the process from beginning to end, he makes sure that his boards are built to his exceedingly high standard of quality.

With a variety of shapes in his quiver, classic noseriders, single fin eggs, diamond tail twin-fins, and everything in between, his boards fill the niche for every type of surf. Constantly trying new designs and switching things up, Micah can usually be found with a smile (and beard) on his face, surfing circles at Pipes in N. County San Diego with 3 other boards waiting on the beach to be ridden.
